The simple yet very profound spiritual truth all believers must come to grips with in their pursuit of holiness is that we only become spiritually better in terms of our obedience and growth in holiness, otherwise known as sanctification, when we believe that if we never become better God's love for us is not diminished in any way. In fact, it is this simple basic truth that causes us to love with an even greater intensity this God whose love for us is not based upon our positive performance but rather is based upon His Son's performance on our behalf. And when we realize that the reason why we sin is because we love sin and that the only way to fight the sin we love is to love God more we see the importance of an intense love for God that in responding to His love for us produces a love for Him that is greater than our love for our sin. Therefore, coming full circle, if we ever want to fight sin so as to become better Christians we must recognize that if we never become better He will love us anyway and this will cause us to love Him more so as to become better.
